Irish traditional music has much in common with classical and baroque music. At it's heart Irish music is dance music, so all the nuances and details of rhythm, phrasing and ornamentation have parallels in the classical world.

In this unique series of videos, Sinead draws on her unique knowledge of both classical and Irish traditional techniques to systematically introduce advanced violinists to the unique bowing, rhythmic and phrasing nuances of four of the typical tune types of Irish music - polka, jig, hornpipe and reel.

The course is designed to equip you with the tools to play Irish music in an authentic way, teaching you to listen and evaluate the details of the music with new ears. From this basis, you will be in a position to build your repertoire of Irish tunes from the vast resources available online, and in print.
