A free online course and E-book - a new approach to reading music for folk and trad musicians.

Over the years, I have met some amazing trad and folk musicians who don't read music. Reading music is a useful skill to have, especially if you want to progress as a music teacher in more formal contexts.

These days I have a lot of time on my hands - like almost every other musicians in the world, so I've put together a unique new approach for learning to read music for folk and trad musicians.

The method uses typical rhythmic and melodic patterns of common dance tunes - reels, jigs and hornpipes, as a framework for gradually building up familiarity and fluency in ready standard notation. Through a three sided approach marrying muscle memory (playing), reading and hearing, this course draws on my own research into how we learn new skills later in life.

In the course, I touch on how we need to change our mindset to overwrite years of thinking "I can't do that" so that we can have learn new skills, and allow ourselves to be less than brilliant as we learn! This came from my own experience of relearning piano a couple of years ago - it was really, really hard!

The course launches Saturday 28th March. Drop me a line if you are interested in reviewing the course, or for any feedback - good or bad!
